Bowls runs in the family at Taunton Deane Bowling Club, where Lucas Beale recently joined his father, Simon, and Grandfather, Mike, in one of the club’s senior teams.

Lucas joined the club’s Junior Academy at the age of eight, taking the initiative himself because he wanted to follow in his family’s footsteps. Simon then took up the sport to keep up with his son, while Mike has been bowling for 35 years.

The family’s enthusiasm for the game extends even further – Mike’s two other adult children, Kirsty and Levi, also play bowls at national level.

With three generations now playing together in the same team, the Beales are a fine example of how bowls brings families together and how the sport really is for all ages.
