After months of planning, preparation and anticipation, Apple FM is delighted to announce that its brand new studio at historic Ina’s Cottage in Taunton town centre will officially launch at 10am on Saturday 5th September.

The announcement marks a significant new chapter in the station’s history following one of the biggest changes since Apple FM first began broadcasting.

At the start of 2026, Apple FM launched a public appeal to find a new home after being informed by Musgrove Park Hospital that it would need to vacate its long-standing studio accommodation. Hospital management explained that, due to increasing pressures on NHS services and the need to prioritise clinical space, the studio area within the Duchess Building would be required for healthcare purposes.

The move brings to a close an extraordinary chapter in the station’s story. Apple FM has broadcast from  Musgrove for over 55 years and from  its current studio in the Duchess Building for exactly 26 years, serving listeners both internally and across Taunton and the surrounding communities since becoming a community radio station in 2013.

Following the appeal, the station received several generous offers of accommodation from organisations and supporters across the area. After careful consideration, Apple FM accepted an offer to relocate to Ina’s Cottage, a unique and historic building that forms part of the Mambo complex in the heart of Taunton. Apple FM would like to extend its thanks to Mambo management for their kind offer of this amazing and vibrant location.

Ina’s Cottage is a Grade II listed building dating from the late 18th to early 19th century and was formerly used as a gatehouse for Taunton Castle. Combining heritage and character with a central location, the building provides an exciting new base for the community radio station as it looks towards the future.

The relocation has also provided Apple FM with the opportunity to refresh its output and identity. When the station  relaunch’s from its new home, listeners can expect a brand new sound, alongside the familiar mix of local information, community-focused programming and great music that has made Apple FM a valued part of the local media landscape.

Station representatives have described the move as both the end of an era and the beginning of an exciting new journey.  The new town centre location places Apple FM at the heart of the community it serves.

Apple FM encourages you to tune in for this special milestone when the station officially launches from Ina’s Cottage at 10am on Saturday 5th September.  The same station with brand new energy.
