Taunton School unveils new Astroturf Pitches

Taunton School has unveiled two new full-size AstroTurf pitches as part of its wider campus development plan.

The double AstroTurf complex has been built on part of the School’s playing field with a specification which will allow for further development of its hockey provision and gives a national stage for sporting competitions.

The pitches are fully floodlit and fenced, ensuring a safe, practical and professional playing area for students and the wider Taunton community.

Director of Sport, Daniel Pettifer, said: “It is an exciting time at Taunton School, for sports staff, parents, and students. The AstroTurf pitches are going to have a huge impact on our offering in terms of breadth and quality and we are extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to add these to our campus.”

The brand-new AstroTurf pitches have been constructed by one of the UK’s leading sports facility construction contractors. The pitch carpet has been made using TigerTurf Evo Pro, the highest quality material for hockey pitches, offering a soft, durable and versatile surface for a range of sports; the advanced monofilament yarn technology will also help the surface remain in top condition for many years to come.

As well as offering Taunton School students a new area to play and train, the pitches will also be available for local teams and clubs to hire.

This is the latest project in Taunton School’s multi-million-pound campus development plan to reach completion. Work is beginning in the next couple of weeks on a new boarding facility with the capacity to host more than 140 students, ensuring they can fully immerse themselves in the School’s exceptional pastoral and co-curricular programmes. Completion is anticipated in early 2027.
