Tauton Students enjoy international rugby success

Three students from Taunton School have been selected to attend international age-grade camps with England and Scotland.

Caspar and Monty have been selected to train with England U17s at St George’s Park, while Fraser has been selected for Scotland U18s as they prepare for the upcoming Six Nations.

This is a fantastic opportunity for the three students to show off their skills in the hope of ultimately being selected for the main England and Scotland men’s teams respectively, while gaining valuable coaching and insights into being part of an international rugby set up.

Director of Rugby, Ben Thomas, said: “This is an incredible achievement and a true reflection of their hard work, skill, and dedication. We couldn’t be prouder. Best of luck to Caspar, Monty and Fraser with this exciting opportunity.”

Caspar, who joined Taunton School in Year 12, started his rugby career at Crewkerne RFC at age five, becoming involved with Bristol Bears at U14 level. Monty has been at Taunton School since Year 6, which is where his rugby talents began and has been playing for Bristol Bears for a number of years. Fraser started his rugby career in Guernsey at the age of five, before being involved with Harlequins Academy and then joining Bristol Bears when he moved to Taunton School in Year 12.

Taunton School’s extensive rugby provision runs all year round for roughly 400 students across the prep and senior schools, with each term focusing on a different aim, plus training sessions with highly experienced coaches, small group or one-to-one coaching, team gym sessions, matches against other high-performing schools nationally, and much more every week.

The School hosts the West of England Rugby 7s tournament each year, with the 2025 competition having taken place on Sunday 9th March. The event, which was live streamed to more than 12,000 viewers online, welcomed 200 students from around the South West for a day-long tournament between 16 different teams.

As well as its close relationship with Bristol Bears, Taunton School has representative opportunities with the Lambs and county rugby, encouraging its students to try out for these teams each year. The School is passionate about getting more girls playing rugby, with the numbers increasing every year enabling three teams to take part in the 2025 West of England Rugby 7s event where one girls’ team reached the Cup Final, and three teams set to head to the upcoming Rosslyn Park 7s event.
