Somerset On Film – Archive film screening in Cannington

Our rural county is to be celebrated on screen through an evening of archive film in Cannington on March 6th. Somerset Film, supported by SEED Sedgemoor will present “Somerset on Film”, a programme that includes home movies and news reel items to explore our shared history.

The event will take place in the spectacular Clifford Hall at Cannington Court on Thursday 6th March at 7.30pm. The event is free and includes interval refreshments.

The programme includes a special live performance by sound artist Matt Davis accompanying the work of local history enthusiast and amateur filmmaker C S John Sparkes.

Laura French of Somerset Film explains, “Over the last year, with the help of the community, we have digitised over 300 films from the C S John Sparkes collection. He documented rural life, predominantly in the Chilton Polden villages of Burtle and Cossington from the 1970s to early ‘80s. This screening is an opportunity to see some of the collection alongside films from the BFI national collection and The Box regional archive.”

The event is also an example of the type of activity that organisation Seed Sedgemoor can help make happen. Attendees will also have a chance to hear about their work and how they can shape a programme of activity taking place in Cannington over the next year.
