Somerset Film opens applications for 2025 Ignite Artist Residency

Opportunity for Somerset-based artists to explore digital creativity

Somerset Film is offering a Somerset-based artist an exciting opportunity to become the Artist in Residence at The Engine Room in Bridgwater from mid-June to mid-September 2025. Open to artists from Somerset working in any medium—including visual arts, performance, dance, music, sound art, and the written word—this residency encourages the integration of digital ideas into existing creative practices.

This year, the residency is specifically for artists who wish to take part in Somerset Art Works Open Studios but face barriers such as physical access, financial constraints, or caring responsibilities. The selected artist will receive mentoring, access to specialist equipment, and support to create a digital interpretation of their studio and work, which will be showcased at The Engine Room from September 13th to 28th, 2025, coinciding with Somerset Art Works Festival Weeks. A repeat exhibition is also planned for February 2026 at another venue.

Whats Included?

  • £1,000 artist fee + £200 materials budget
  • Up to 12 days of support from the Ignite Somerset Creative Technologist
  • Access to cutting-edge equipment, including Virtual Reality tools, Polycam LiDAR scanning, moving image, and sound technology
  • A public exhibition during Somerset Art Works Festival Weeks

Who Can Apply?

We welcome applications from Somerset-based artists (18+) in any discipline, particularly those from emerging, disabled, or ethnically diverse backgrounds. Applicants must have a demonstrable practice and hold Public Liability Insurance.
